Indian Embassy in Germany Investigates Food Processing Sector in India

The Embassy of India at Berlin, Germany, has informed the AIFPA (All India Food Processors’ Association) of a study it has commissioned on the ‘Experience and Prospects for Increasing Investments in India’s Food Processing Sector’. This study is a component of the trade promotion budget of the embassy’s commercial wing.

The study comprises a detailed report about the current status of the German food processing industry including logistics and distribution, transportation, market trends, and its range of products and services. This shall provide both Indian and German players in the food processing sector a clear overview of the industry in both countries. It also reveals the increased opportunities, which the Government of India’s policy efforts to improve investment climate in India provides for players in both the countries.

Some of the key findings of the study are that German companies have been able to effectively adapt their operations to suit the Indian markets. However, German SMEs have found the Indian business environment challenging to navigate, owing to lack of clear information on rules and regulations, and policies and infrastructural limitations. Thus, the study presents the scope for trade and investment expansion by German companies in the Indian food processing industry.
